My Own Personal Saint

Tuesday night we had our quarterly Primary activity. We had a pioneer trek (child sized). The teachers were the wagon masters and we, in the presidency, ran the 3 stations they rotated to. I had the "Dance" station where I taught the older kids the Virginia Reel and the younger kids the Chicken Dance. It turned out well and was fun.

After setting up the activity, doing it, and then cleaning up, I didn't get home until 9:30 p.m. and was tired. That night Jacob got up at 12:30 to eat. Because I hadn't been sleeping in the previous days (and was now dead tired) I could barely get up. Jason went in and took care of that feeding and Jacob didn't get up again until 5:30 a.m. So I was able to sleep.

Then last night Jason did the getting up. Gave Jacob his pacifier at 1:30 and 2:30..then fed him at 3:30. While I woke up for the 3:30 feeding, I went right back to sleep and when Jason got up at 5:30 for work I actually felt RESTED! It was GREAT! Jason is such a saint!!! I know not every husband helps as much as he does.

I am so GLAD I found Jason (even if it took years!)......but then I was glad I found him even before I learned about these saintly attributes! I LOVE being married to Jason!

Zombie Woman

There will be no pictue with this due to my own vanity. I am now anticipating when Jacob will get up at night, to the point that I am awake before he is! Last night I looked at the clock at 11:20, 12:30, 1:15, 2:30 (when he did wake up to eat), 3:30, 5:30 (when he got up again to eat, but Saint Jason went in to feed him)....I felt like I was awake ALL night long. It is awful because by the end of the week I am a nut case for lack of sleep and Jason has to live with me all weekend as I try to catch up on sleep while he takes Jacob. Last weekend Jason could look at me and I'd cry.

The most accurate description of how I feel is that I am up for New Year's Eve every night of the week with a mixture of staying up late, like I did as a Freshman in college. I'm too old for this type of schedule.

I kept telling myself last night, just sleep until he gets up and then go back to sleep. He eats quickly, but my brain just keeps clicking away....I need to stop the insanity that is my current sleep pattern. I used to be such a sound sleeper...

Cool Dude!

Jacob LOVES his boucy seat!

Chillin' out at Grandma and Grandpa's one (early) morning

White Gold

Ah, to know how much to put in the bottle. Each feeding, especially early on, was a guessing game as to how much to put in the bottle. Formula is expensive (he is worth it of course) and when you pour an ounce or two down the drain....there goes his college fund. :)

Making Spudnuts with Mom

I spent the week with Mom and Dad (while Kristina, Shane and family where visiting) to help keep my sanity. We had some left over mashed potatoes and mom made spudnuts.

Grandpa--what are you doing?

Pretzel Face and Time with Cousins

This in one of Jacob's teething rings. It was so funny how it fit!

Jacob's Blessing Day

Grandpa Safsten, Jason, Jacob and Grandpa Wong
Sunday, July 6th was Jacob's blessing day. He was blessed by his Dad, Jason and in the circle there was his Grandpa's Wong and Safsten, Uncles Jared and Josh Wong, Uncles David Brady and Shane Golightly and 2 friends, Dave Kener and Sam Ruffin.

July 6th was also Elizabeth Hollingshaus' (Jacob's cousin) 18th birthday! She came up from BYU and her busy social schedule to be with us. :) You'll see the picture with her and Jacob. Oldest and youngest cousin on Safsten side of the family.

After the blessing, we went to a park with everyone to eat. There were 43 people and we just couldn't house them all at our house. It ended up raining a bit so it worked out well.

It was a fun day!

What 26 years will do.

Inez and I met in August 1982 at BYU. We lived in the dorms (Helaman Halls, May hall) and hit it off from the moment we met. That was 26 years ago! At that time our lives were pretty much under control...we were in college, knew what we were doing and where our lives should go. College, marriage, kids...All before we were 30 of course!

Here in the first picture (on the left) you see Inez and I in October 1982 with her family on the deer hunt. The second picture is with our other wonderful friend, Lisa. That was taken in April 1985 just after Lisa's bridal shower. We met her in the dorms also. The 3 of us have our birthdays within 1 week of each other.... Great girls--so thankful they are my friends!! The picture on the right was taken just this last May. Inez is there with Neal, her 3rd (a surprise child) and me with my 1st, Jacob. Lisa, who took the picture of us has 4 children and her oldest daughter just got married in June!

We used to joke that Lisa would be rocking her grandchildren as we were rocking our own children. Who knows when her daughter will have children, but her grandkids could be playing with our kids! Weird! My how different life can turn out to be!
