April

April began with Easter, General Conference and the beginning of spring break.   This year we asked Jacob if he wanted to look for his basket.  He wasn't excited about it, but he was willing in order to get the candy.  :)

Karen bought a food freeze dryer.  She gave me trays, I beat up 5 dozen eggs, balanced the trays in the freezer and poured the beaten eggs on the trays.  They needed to freeze over night...Karen has found that freezing first really helps the process go faster and work better.

The first Monday of spring break I went and received my 2nd Covid shot.  I received the Pfizer vaccine.  There are 3 vaccines out there.  Pfizer, Moderna and Johnson & Johnson.  Most people have been OK with the first shot, but the 2nd has made some feel sick for a day or two.  I was waiting to see what it would do to me--nothing!  I felt fine other than a sore arm.  Hopefully we are getting closer to being done with this pandemic!

We had decided the week before to try and take a trip during the week.  We asked Catheys to join us and at first were looking at going to Little Wild Horse Canyon.  We looked at motels and since we were not planning to camp we changed our plans.  We ended up going to Bryce Canyon.

We stayed at the Abby Inn in Cedar City which is about 1 1/2 hours from the canyon.  That afternoon, after checking in, we headed to the pool.  They had fun and we sat around and talked.

That night was a HUGE step for us!  We needed to eat and we went to The Pizza Cart and actually sat down in a restaurant and ate without our masks!  It felt so good.   That is the first time in over a year we have done anything like that.  The pizza was good!

The next day, Wednesday, we headed into Bryce.  Bryce is a beautiful canyon.  We drove around the rim and got out at different spots to look.  We drove to the end first, had lunch and took a 1 mile hike.

We wore masks in the park because we had to.  When we weren't around other people we took them off.
As we drove back towards the visitor's center we stopped a different over looks.  At one stop we jumped on the shuttle bus to the next stop while Jason and Tom drove to meet us there.
At that stop, Ashlyn was running down a steep hill and her feet got caught over some rocks and she fell.  She had a gash in her knee and we headed back to Cedar City to an Instacare.  We were about done with the day and she ended up getting stiches.  It was a quick visit!  In and out within 45 mins.
That night we got sub sandwiches and the kids (all but Ashlyn) got back in the pool again.  The next day we got up, packed and left for home around 1 p.m.  When we got home we unpacked and then went to Cathey's for a BBQ.  We played a fun grass game of knocking over pegs.  After dinner we played games.

The next week I began working on trying to schedule ministering interviews. We're really trying to do the interviews in person with both members of the companionship together.  I've been able to meet with a few.  It is hard because things change with move-ins and move-outs.  Or sisters who never do ministering.

That weekend Jacob went on a scout camp out down at Maple Dell.  He left Friday night.  On Saturday I went down to Mom's to have lunch with Mom, Joy, Heidi and Adrienne for Mom's birthday.  Had a good visit, but had to get home for 4 p.m. leadership meeting for Stake Conference.  Jason headed down to Jacob's camp that afternoon for the family dinner.  Jacob wanted to stay over until Sunday so we let him.  It is hard with some of these scout camps because they go Friday - Sunday.  No one is penalized for coming home Saturday, but it still makes it hard.

First watermelon of the season.
It was pretty good

The 4th weekend we had Catheys over for a BBQ and played games.  The next morning Jason and Jacob fixed Jacob's sink upstairs.  We had found wood shavings underneath the sink and couldn't figure out why or where it was coming from.  Apparently the sink hole had not been cut big enough and it rubbed over the years.  So they cut a bit more out and replaced the sink.
We had considered trying to get a solid surface counter top, but the vanity is not a standard size so it costs a lot to special order.  If we were to get a standard vanity it would cut the vanity size down by 2 inches.  The next problem is the floor.  The tile was installed up to the vanity edge, not under it.  So if we purchased a smaller, standard size, vanity we then had the problem of the 2 inch flooring gap on the tile.  It just ended up going on and on...kind of like If You Give A Mouse a Cookie....If You Want To Replace Your Sink Top....  So for now it is done.

Next item is the vertical blinds in the kitchen.  One of the clips that attaches the blinds broke. Other parts have been repaired so we'll probably just replace the whole track and blinds.  I thought about replacing the 8' sliding glass door with a hinged door that has blinds in between the glass.  The cost is about $7000.  I love all the light we get with the sliding doors so I probably won't do that.

Saturday, after sink fixing, we went to Jared and Stephanie's to celebrate Randy and Stephen's birthdays.  We did make your own pizzas.  Afterwards the girls went inside to watch Abby begin to get ready for her Prom date and the guys sat outside to talk.

Saturday night I was going upstairs and an open bottle of blue Lysol toilet bowl cleaner was on the stair ledge.  Jason had set it there while the sink top was drying and to make sure nothing was leaking under the sink.  I hit it and it went flying down the stairs splattering blue on the walls and carpet. UGH!!

We tried scrubbing it to no avail.  Jason then got some bleach and it took the blue out.  Would only work on white carpet.  The carpet is a bit whiter in those areas, but it will do for now.
