August

Jason got sick the first of the month.  Here Jacob is taking food to him.  It was a bad cold.  Jacob actually had a stuffy nose a few days before, but was done in 2 days.  Maybe this is what Jason caught and was sick with it for 2 weeks.

Tom Cathey's work party this year was at the
Bees' baseball game.
They invited Jacob to go.  He had a fun time.

On August 5th Irina, Janette, and Sarah left for
England.  Everyone met at our house to say
good-bye.  They'll be back next summer.

Jason and Jacob went to do a bike ride with Ben and Elias Ahyou.  Jason was coughing so hard he had to come home, but Jacob stayed and road up to the top of where ever they were riding.

Jacob and Jaxon decided to go to each other's schools again to check them out--like they did before 6th grade.  On Tuesday they went to Alta and on Wednesday they went to Corner Canyon. My how they've grown.

That night Jaxon and Tom came over and we watched Men In Black 1 & II.

On Thursday Jacob had bike practice.  I dropped him off and by the time I was getting gas at Costco, Jacob called me to come pick him up--too much rain.

Friday I had the joy of going in to the dentist due to a crown that had a cavity underneath.  He drilled in and couldn't save the tooth.  He covered it over and sent me to an oral surgeon.  Going to have to do an implant.  Pulling the tooth in September.

Friday night we did something more fun.  We went to the symphony to see Jurassic World while the symphony played the musical score live.  It was very good!

Saturday night we had Cathey's over for pizza, a movie and fire pit.

On Sunday we went to Randy and MarySue's for Stephen and Hannah's new baby--Meilin's baby blessing.

Later on Sunday afternoon we went over to Ahyou's.  Ben planned a surprise party for Andrea's 40th birthday.  There was Ben & Andrea's families, a couple from their ward, and us.  They had dinner and then everyone went around and shared the scrapbook page they had made honoring Andera.  It was fun!

First day of school breakfast tradition continues...
though this year we did it on the Friday before
school started.  That day was Freshman orientation.
Made it easier and less hurried.

FIRST DAY OF HIGH SCHOOL!!   Amazing!!  Jacob is a freshman in high school!!
First days seemed to go well.  Hope that continues!

My handsome 9th grade boy!!

The Saturday after school started, Aug. 20, Jason left for Thailand.  He worked over there until Aug. 31.
The next day, Sunday, mom had us over because Chris and Jen were in town.  They had driven Garrett and Kelly back to start school at BYU.  We had dinner and visited for a while.  After we went over to Heidi's for dessert and to see her new pool.  It is beautiful.

Jacob has bike practice every Tuesday and Thursday night.  On a Thursday ride, before his bike race,  they were in Corner Canyon riding and a dog owner hadn't pulled her dog off the trail far enough.  When Jacob rode by the dog bit him!  His leg is Ok.

Had lunch with the Julies and Teresa now that school is going again.  We've done this for at least 10 years.  In this picture we were laughing because it was so hard to get a selfie.  Julie Wiggins was reaching her arm out as far as she could.
BIKE RACE DAY!  Eagle Mountain

On Saturday, Aug. 27 we headed down to Eagle Mountain around noon.  They have race waves happening all day for the different categories of riders.  Jacob was nervous because when he did a practice ride back in July he had come home and thrown up.  Mainly because he had eaten 5 bags of fruit snacks while waiting to be called up.  This time he had a good breakfast, we had lunch with the team, he drank water and was ready for his race at 4:15.

Hanging out at the staging zone ready to line up.
I love this picture with Jacob sliding his
sunglasses down to give me a smile.

While waiting for his race, I had signed up to do crossing guard for 2 hours.

Since Jacob did not race last year--they did not have a time for them to place him in his wave.  They did random draw and he was seeded 3rd in his group.  He loved being in front to start the race!

At the front!!  His friend, Itai, was at the front too!

Once his race started I went over to the feed zone--where they give bottles of water to the riders as they come through on their first lap.  I was able to see him up close as he went by.
Once his wave had finished their 1st lap I could go to the finish line to see him come in.  He improved his time from the practice race in July.  11.3 miles in 1 hour 18 minutes.
A great finish!

At home afterwards enjoying some Cafe Rio

I didn't realize, until it was over, how much stress I was carrying going into Saturday.  Biking is Jason's thing.  I know about bikes, but I am not a biker.  It liken it to me going out of town and asking Jason to take over ward choir.  He knows about singing, but he is not a singer.

The Tuesday after the race they had a bike ride up at Snowbird.  I took Jacob and Itai up there, only to discover that they had changed it to Draper Park.  I was soooo frustrated.  Poor boys--I should have held it together better.  We came back down the canyon and I dropped them off at the bike park and they did the pump track.  Here is Jacob catching a little air.

Jason arrived home on the 31st.  Good to have him back.  He was busy working, but he also did a little sight seeing.
