June

School was out on May 27th.  Our first week of no school was spent with a cold.  Jacob got it first on Memorial Day and was better by Wednesday.  Wednesday I woke up with it hitting me full force.  I was flat in bed all day.  Thursday was a little better and Friday I was up and doing things that needed to be done.  It hung on into the next week with a nose and coughing.  Hopefully that is illness out of the way.  I figure that we've had 18 months with no colds, flu etc. and that has been nice.  It would be nice if the cold could have been eradicated while we all had masks!

It began with a dinner with Kim Stewart, Jennifer Stein Thomas, Sharon Price Hutchison, Shelly and Joy.
It was fun to visit with everyone and catch up.

Jacob's scout troop was supposed to go camping at City of Rocks, but the reservation was never made.  So they headed down to Craig's cabin in Lyman.  They camped out and went hiking.

On June 17th, Joy's son, Taylor, married Bryn van Komen in the Draper Temple.  Later that day they did a ring ceremony outside at The Grand American, followed by a dinner reception inside.  It was all very nice and afterwards they had a dance.  I wish I had pictures of Ryan Hollingshaus and Hank (Kristen's husband) dancing!  So funny.

Jacob and Jaxon swimming at Dimple Dell.

Around Mother's Day I planted flowers in the front yard.  They started out so pretty.  I loved them.  Slowly, something began to eat at some and the heat has taken it's toll on others.  The dahlias are barely surviving.

The day I got my first pedicure in 2 years I sat out front enjoying the flowers.

Jacob's troop meets in the basement of a senior living center.  They asked the boys to come and do a flag ceremony on Flag Day.
We managed to connect with Debbie Kirby and her kids this summer.  We drove out to Magna to see their new home and go swimming.  It was fun to see them again.
Father's Day.  Most of the gifts Jason received were things he put on Amazon and I pushed the button to order.  Bike tire, bike gloves, biking sleeves and leggings.  And some garments.  Exciting!

Father's Day was also Kristina and Erick's birthday.  So we went down to Mom's to celebrate with dinner and cake.

Kids table
The day after Father's Day we left for St. George with the Catheys.  We rented a condo in Las Palmas and it was perfect.  3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.  We arrived and then headed out to dinner.

The following day we went to an all inclusive park.  It was really fun!  Water pad, playground equipment that all of us could play on.
Getting eaten!

One of the best features of the place we stayed was the pools.  These pictures are of one of the 2 smaller pools at Las Palmas.  The kids are trying to drag Jason out to sea!

Not sucessful.

Hanging out and laying around

Las Palmas shares a clubhouse, pool, BB court and pickle ball court.  There are 2 pools...one indoor and one outdoor.

What timing!!
They also have a large square pool that these 2 slides go into.  The kids had a great time!

Friday we went over to Stephen and Hannah's new place.  They are renting a condo that Josh has down there while he is working on his Masters.  We all helped them move things in.  The kids were a bid help!
We left on Saturday morning and stopped in Beaver for their famous ice cream.  Had lunch and then ice cream.

The following day was Jason's 52nd birthday.  For this one we tried to surprise him with a cell phone case charger.  He wanted one, but didn't order it.

All dressed up with no where to go.

Dinner at Jared's

End of June Jacob went to a camp offered by BYU.  He went with Jaxon Cathey, Andy and Alex Brown.  It was 3 days, all day and they had a great time!

AND Costco is doing tasters again!!!!

May

May began with a bridal shower for Bryn, Taylor's fiancĂ©.  Joy hosted it at Heidi's and most of the family was there.  Jen and Kelly got to be there too...they had come in for Amy's baby.

Joy put together a slide show of questions she had asked Taylor beforehand and Bryn tired to answer the questions as she thought Taylor would.  It was fun!

Chris came in mid April for Amy's baby and Jen and Kelly flew in a week later.

We all got together after Bryn's shower to visit.  Mackenzie was there with Rio too.  She had come in for her sister's bridal shower.

It was so fun to see Mallory.  This was the first time I had seen her in person (saw her on the Zoom baby shower for Amy) since she got home in March.  She is here for the summer, working at the BYU bookstore again and taking a math class.
I was going to ask why she was taking math during the summer, but then she told me that it is now $300 per credit.  So she had to take something she really needed.
She will head up to BYU-I in fall.
Grandpa Safsten, Tanner and Me.  Weird to call
Chris, Grandpa Safsten!

Amy was so kind and sharing with little Tanner.  He is so cute and cuddly.  It is so easy to forget how small they are to begin with!

Periodically I need to pick up a food order for someone.  Normally people go into the Bishop's Storehouse themselves and pick up the food.  With one particular sister I take her to shop.
With the pandemic we can't go in.  They have the full time missionaries shop for you and load into your car.
I went to pick up an order and who should walk out, but Garrett!  It was so fun to see him and talk for a few minutes.  He looks and sounds great!
For Randy's birthday, Karen bought a "car entrance" into a dinosaur display called Jurassic Quest.  They had some that moved and made sounds.  Randy, MarySue, Karen, Jacob, Lilly, Grace, and Robbie went.  Jacob thought it was OK  Robbie loved it.

We try to get something for MarySue for Mother's Day and give it to her on Saturday since we are with our Moms on Mother's Day.  This year we did a BBQ over here on Saturday.  We celebrated Mother's Day and everyone whos had a birthday since March.

Towards the end of the afternoon they began to shoot these disks out of the disk guns we have in the basement.  It had been a long day and Karen looked at me, kind of like, "Are you OK with this?"  I didn't mind and said, "Yes, it's just been a long day."

The following day we went down to Heidi's for Mother's Day.  David had decorated their family room with tables in a square.  We had homemade Cafe Rio.  Kristina was in town with Tanner to visit while Chris was here.
I was in charge of making one of the desserts.  I chose this Pinterest dessert.  It was really easy to make (kind of expensive) and turned out!

Jacob was rather tired on the way home.

Our scripture study at home

Jacob wanted VR Chat.  He knew we didn't, so he put together a very well done slide presentation.  He thought of everything!  He presented the points, he showed the parental controls, he came up with answers to why we would say no.  It was very well done!
We still say no, because none of his friends have it.  Don't want him online with people he doesn't know.

Since we've been wearing masks for a year, I wanted a picture of Jacob with a mask.  This is him headed out for school.  Guitar in the back and heading to get in.

When I moved up to Salt Lake, back in 1993,
I was put into the Relief Society presidency with
Juilanna Siemens.  She just retired from teaching
and I was able to go to her Covid style retirement.
It was so fun to see her!  She married about 5
years ago and I asked what their plans were.  She
said they will probably go on a mission.  Will be fun
to see what she does.
About the 3rd week of May kids, ages 12-17 could get their vaccines.   Jacob will be fully vaccinated by June 11th.
Dad, writing down plans for summer.
In between falling asleep.

Last Monday of school
Tuesday, the last week of school, Jacob came home
and said that he had just seen people walking out of
school.  That he wanted to do it too.  We talked about
how the school is responsible for you and you shouldn't
really just walk out.  But....we told him he could do it on
Wednesday if he wanted, but he had to text and let us
know when he was leaving so we knew where it was.
He wanted to be a bit rebellious by just walking out.
This is the text he sent as he left on Wednesday.
So funny!  He got home and we asked how it was.  He
said walking out was fun, but once he was home it was
nothing different.  :)

Jacob preparing for battle with friends
S'mores....Yummy!

S'mores....Sticky!!

Friday night we went to Ahyou's for a bbq.  Had fun seeing them again.

Saturday Jason and Jacob went on a hike with the scouts.  In the late afternoon we went over to Cathey's for dinner, a few games, and we watched a movie.  Had a fun time.
Sunday afternoon family nap on the couch.  We barely fit!   Also, the first day of a cold for Jacob.  Last week of school they didn't need to wear masks and I Jacob caught a cold.  This nap is the beginnings of it.

Sunday, after the nap, we headed down
to American Fork for Bridger's Eagle
Court of Honor.  It was fun to see him.
After the Court of Honor we went to Mom's
for Tanner Hawkins' baby blessing.  It was
fun to see everyone and chat.

Monday was Memorial Day.  We were going to go swimming with Jared's family, but Jacob didn't feel good.  The family did come over later in the day and we had a BBQ.

I can't believe May is over!
