Family Fun in July!

(Dad with his flag at dusk)

4th of July (actually it was Saturday the 3rd) started with a neighborhood breakfast. Each year the neighbors on our street meet on someone's front lawn, we sign up to bring food, visit and eat. It is a great way to meet and get to know people a little better. Afterward, the rest of the neighborhood meets on our street and the kids ride their bikes in a mini parade. There are a ton of kids, they decorate their bikes and wagons, and have a great time! We then spent the afternoon down at Jason's brother's house. We had lunch, made homemade ice cream (here the men are working on it) and the kids played in the pool. We also celebrated Jason, Mary Sue (my Mother-in-law) and Lilly's birthdays. Jacob playing basketball.

After relaxing, everyone was getting ready to go in for cake. Jason was laying down (he is sitting in the picture, but then laid down)
and Josh and Jared picked up the kid's pool to dump it. They saw him and decided to surprise him with the water. I wish I had known they were coming for him and I would have gotten the camera out to take before pictures. The only shot it got was after.

On the 16th Jason's Mother's family had a reunion. .
Jacob LOVED playing by this water fountain and this is where he spent most of his day

There was a stream/lake where people could fish. Here Jacob is with Jason and his dad. It was a hot, but fun day.

Sunday, the 18th, Michael and Taylor (Joy's boys) were here for the weekend after EFY (before they flew home). Both of them and Elizabeth have birthdays in July. So we got together at mom's to celebrate. Jessica and Brook (Kristina's oldest) have been here since the middle of June staying at my mom's and hanging out with Heidi's kids. There are no pictures of Heidi's kids because they were on a whirl wind tour back East seeing the sights of Church history, Boston, New York etc.

The following week my friend, Andrea and her little boy, Connor, went with us to Cowabunga Bay. We had a great time in the walk-in entry pool and floating down the lazy river. The next night we went with Jared and Stephanie for Lilly's birthday (Gotta love the 2 for 1 coupons we found!)

For the 24th Jason had Thursday-Saturday off. We went on a hike on Thursday morning up off of Wasatch drive. It was great because we were the only ones there on Thursday. Friday afternoon I was rejuvenated with a haircut and color...amazing what that does for my disposition!! :) While I was gone Jacob and Jason went out to the Kennecott mine with Jared's family to take a look around. Jacob with his cousins.

Saturday morning Jacob woke up at 6:15. His usual time is 6:30-6:45, so this was a little earlier. We decided to get up, pack a breakfast of Cheerios and milk, get on our bikes and ride over to Draper park. Actually this was all Jason's idea since I would never suggest bike riding at 7 a.m. Yep, see the picture, the clock says 6:50! We were off by 7 a.m. Jacob getting ready.
Got to the park, had breakfast
and then played on the swings and slides.

Later, after Jacob's nap, we went to a splash park out in Herriman. It was hot, but windy...when the wind blew the water at you it was a bit chilly. Jacob had fun.

That night Jason's family came over for fireworks.

Our friend, Tamsin, with her daughter and unfortunately had her car backed into by one of our neighbors. It was a fun evening overall, but I felt sorry for her.

Just a shot of my men at work.
Daddy talking to work on his "work phone." Jacob needed to be with him and talk on his "work phone" also. It has been a fun holiday month and I had a great time with my boys!

All in 12 Hours

Last night we were weeding the flower beds and Jacob was helping. He came over to dump his bucket of weeds into mine and bmped his cheek on our front step. Then this moring Jason was getting his bike ready to ride. He was fixing a flat tire and Jacob started to spin the tire. He got his index finger hit between the derailer and spoke. Cut it. We came in, washed it off, put medicine on it and a bandage.

He then went right back out and started spinning the wheel again and this time caught his other index finger and cut it. Same routine inside to fix it.You can see his two bandaged fingers in his lap. :) Poor kid--all banged up in just 12 hours. What kind of parents does this kid have????

The Pool, Cars and Haircuts

Last week we decided to fill up the pool and Jacob wanted to help. He was very intent on getting it done. He started the project standing, but then decided it took too long and sat down.

It amazes me how much Jacob loves cars. I get the part that he likes his little toy cars, etc., but we had a Consumer Report magazine rating cars. Jacob saw it and loves to look through it...he even asks where it is if he can't find it.

Look at all of his hair in those pictures....CHOP, CHOP, CHOP it went on Saturday. I usually cut Jason's hair and decided to be brave and do Jacob's. I started out with the clippers and the #3 attachment, but he didn't want to sit long enough for me to cut the top with scissors....so Jason just used the #3 on his whole head. I don't think it looks too bad. The front is a bit short, but it will grow in. :)

Time to Talk about the Word of Wisdom

Went to the store to get some eggs--had Jacob in the stroller. Someone was standing (with her cart) right in front of the eggs so I pushed Jacob forward a little and went around the woman to get a dozen. I put them in my stroller and started to push Jacob when I heard him say, "Mmmm...yummy." I then looked down at him and this is what I saw.

If you look carefully it is Polygamy Porter's brand! I laughed pretty hard at this. I hadn't thought of how it was right in his reach--who puts beer by eggs anyway!?!? :)

Empty Shelves...Oh Dear!!!!

Jacob has had a fever since Tuesday. He doesn't get them very often so it takes a while to go through Motrin or Tylenol. Last night, during the middle of the night, we used our last of the Motrin.

I knew it would be too hard to go out today and get more, since he isn't feeling good, so I got up and went before Jason left for work.

I went to Harmon's and there was NOTHING on the shelf. I asked and they told me with the recall of Tylenol the other companies have not been able to keep up. I then went to Walmart and found 2 boxes left of the generic brand. I was thankful to have found something. It made me realize I do not ever want to get that low on medications we might need in an emergency. When your baby has a fever you want help.

Now I have Motrin again--thanks goodness. If you decide to go out and buy some, the store clerk said (with the recall) to make sure the expiration is at least the middle of 2011.

Again, no disasters during my lifetime please!! :)
