The Rest of August

The week after we got home from Glacier I took a girls trip with the in-laws.  MarySue had wanted to go somewhere this summer and Randy didn't feel up to it so Irina, Hannah, Jenny, MarySue and I went down to southern Utah.

We left Friday morning at 10 from Draper and got to Irina's about 11 a.m. We did a lunch stop at Denny's where I got my first senior discount lunch for being 55.  WEIRD!!
We drove down and stopped at Cedar Breaks.  Irina and I hiked a tiny bit to see the canyon.

Later we checked in at Holiday Inn and Express.  Then we headed to Lupitas for dinner.

That night we went to the Shakespeare Festival and saw the play Joseph.  It was wonderful!  I think Jacob would have loved it!

Saturday Irina and I were up at 7:30, she went on a run and then we tried to get the others out of bed to go to breakfast.

After breakfast we drove to Parawon for a cinnamon roll.  It was advertised as the thing to do.  It was actually just trying to get you into town.  We went to order and the waitress apologized because the only rolls they had left were those with raisins.  Score!!  I wouldn't have had one without raisins.  You can take raisins out, but you can't put them in!

We visited the local drug store, the rock church (the first LDS church in that area) and then went back to Cedar City.

Hannah met up with her aunt to spend the afternoon with her and the rest of us went to the St. George temple to do initiatories.

We then went back to the hotel, met up with Hannah, had dinner and then went back to see the plays.  Hannah and Irina saw Hamlet and MarySue, Jenny and I saw 12th Night.

Sunday we got up and headed for home.

School!  We went school shopping and scored!  Jacob needed another pair of jeans.  We found 2 shirts and they were cheap at $4 and $5, but when the pants rang up at $2.97????  Amazing!!!    Great school shopping.

Before school started we went with Catheys to Airborne to jump.  They opened a new area and the kids loved it!

On Friday I took Jacob, Jaxon and Ashlyn to the skate park, but it was hot...because school was starting on Monday we went to Jacob's school to he could work on opening his locker and looking around.

Then we headed to Jaxon's school and saw where he would be attending.

Later in the afternoon, after the boys had tried their lockers etc., I went pack and decorated Jacob's locker.

After getting Jacob to school on Monday, Emilie Ralph had the moms over for breakfast.

Glacier National Park

A post about Glacier really is about the pictures.  It was so beautiful!

We left Monday morning, July 29th at 6 a.m. in a 15 passenger van with Jared and Stephanie's family.

As we got underway Robbie threw up a couple of times.  After a few days on the road we learned not to feed him until later in the morning.

After a 10 hour drive we arrived in Coram, MT at 5:30 p.m.  The home we rented fit us very

well.

This is the home.  It had a dinning room, living, room, kitchen on the main floor and loft with bedroom up.  It also had a hallway leading to the backdoor and 2 more bedrooms.  Out back there was a nice fire pit.

Board walk on Trail of the Cedars
A fallen tree with all the roots exposed

Our first day we headed out to Glacier.  It was about a 15 min drive from the house to the entrance and then another 15 mins to where we wanted to go the first day.  We began at Trail of the Cedars which then moved into Avalanche Lake.
A friend in our ward put together an itinerary for us of where we could go each day.  The first day she meant for us to just do the .5 mile board walk of Trail of the Cedars.  But it connects to the 4.2 mile (round trip) hike to Avalanche Lake...so we took it.

The water coming down was a beautiful aquamarine color due to the minerals.

Family photo.  I had taken one of Jared's family, posed them and took the picture. I thought it was very cute.  I had Emma take one and her first one was OK, but it didn't get the background which is what makes it cute.  On the way back down from the lake I had her retake it with the background.

Jacob playing with Robbie

Jason carried Robbie while he was sleeping.  He started to put him over his shoulder and Robbie woke up.

Wednesday we got up and left late to head for Hidden Lake.  One thing about Glacier is you have to be at your destination by 8 a.m.for parking or you don't park.  Tuesday morning we did that and found parking for the lake hike. Wednesday we didn't and got to Logan Pass for the Hidden Lake hike at 9:30--no parking.    So we drove down to St. Mary's lake.  We went to the visitor's center and then headed to Two Medicine to see Running Eagle Falls.
We had lunch at the falls before going to Two Medicine Lake to play in the water.  Had such a fun time there.

Hiking around Many Glacier's Lake

Thursday morning we left at 6 a.m. to go to Many Glaciers. It was a 2 hour drive and we had to be there by 8 a.m. for the parking spots again.  We walked around the lake after checking the cost for boat tours. We had lunch at Fish Cap Lake which is by the camp store.  Coming back we drove Going to the Sun Road again.  We stopped at Lunch Creek.  Such a beautiful spot.  Lots of these spots are just small pull offs on Going to the Sun Road, so you have to be lucking enough to get parking.

Snack break

When we left Draper we saw these 3 deer at the corner of our street, Cranberry Hill, and 300 E.  Until Thursday that was the most wildlife we had seen.  After hiking around Many Glacier's Lake we were walking up the path to the parking lot.  Jared was trying to get Robbie to wear his hat.  Robbie kept taking it off and saying "Bear hat, bear hat!"  We finally looked up and off to the side was a bear cub with it's paws up on the trunk of a tree.  It then got down and wandered off.  It was funny that he could see it and we didn't.

As you drive Going to the Sun road there are little pull outs that have beautiful sights to look at--if you're lucky enough to get one of the 8-10 parking spots.  Driving back from Many Glaciers we were lucky and stopped at Lunch Creek.  So pretty!!

Driving home after a long day.  That night we had a hot dog roast at the fire pit they had in the backyard.  It was nice with benches etc.  It was a tad warm (the week we were there we had 85 degree weather), but we had fun.

Playing one evening after our adventures

On Friday we "slept in" a bit and headed out at 9 a.m. to the shops at Apgar, which is at the entrance to Glacier.  They have a big red chair where we posed for various pictures.

After we tried to park at Trail of the Cedars to do the board walk again, but couldn't find parking so we drove up to Red Rock and climbed around in various spots.

Jacob sooo happy to take another picture!

We drove back to Trail of the Cedars, found parking and had lunch.  Then we drove back and stopped at Cascade springs and McDonald's lake.  That night, after dinner, we went into Hungry Horse for huckleberry shakes and a piece of pie.  It was OK, but wouldn't spend my money on it again.

It was a long drive home on Saturday, but a good trip.  Beautiful sights to see!!
