The Rest of June

Summer is going by so fast!  As I planned our summer months I tried to think of one thing we could do each day that would get us out of the house and that Jacob would enjoy.  I didn't want him watching TV all day, I didn't want to be constantly looking for playdates and I also did not want him knocking on our neighbors doors everyday looking for someone to play with.  So this is what was planned.

 He has taken a class at the park, near our house, on M/W afternoons for an hour and a half.  They play games, do crafts, etc.  Two of the most fun days for Jacob were the water sports day....(it has been so hot--17 days of over 100 degrees--that this felt good!), and the tie dye shirt day.

On Tuesdays we go to the movies.  The theater near us runs kids movies all summer on Tuesday or Wednesday mornings.  If you purchase tickets in advance you can see 10 movies for $5.  Not a bad deal.

On Thursdays he has a gymnastics class in the early afternoon.

In addition to this (and this is what made summer seem full) Jacob took 6 weeks of swimming lessons.  He has gotten a lot better and, up until the last week, really liked going.  Even that last week he liked it once he was in the pool, but he was tried of the getting ready and going part.  :)

We also our pass to Cowabunga and have done that several times with our friend Ryan.

Jacob has played with friends in the neighborhood.









He was able to sleep outside in a tent with dad.

We hiked Rocky Mouth and enjoyed the cooler weather up by the waterfall.

We celebrated Father's Day where Jason got some ear muffs for mowing the lawn (Jacob got some too).














Jacob started T-ball and has really liked it.

We celebrated Jason's birthday and as you can see, my cake making skills (at least with this type of cake) seem to be following a pattern.



And at the end of the month cousins came...but that is for another post.  All busy, but fun!!

Mother's Day, Field Trips, Missionary Home, Graduation and Memorial Day

For Mother's Day Jacob and Dad got me a salt and pepper grinder, which I have loved!  After church we went down to Heidi's to have dinner with mom.

Toward the end of May Jacob went on a field trip to the zoo.  I've taken him a few times over the years and he is not really that into animals, but he seemed to have a fun time this year.  Before we went to preschool that day we had gone to the mall where they had face painting and he wanted his face painted.  :)


The following week Jason's brother, Stephen, got home from his mission to the Philippines.  It has been so fun to see him again!

The last week of preschool Jacob had a picnic at the park.  

  On Friday, May 25th, Jacob graduated from preschool!

I cannot believe he will be in Kindergarten next year!!  

We were going to spend the weekend with Jason's family due to Stephen coming home, but that didn't work out as planned.  Jacob had some sort of virus during the week and Jason caught it.  Sunday morning he was so dehydrated that his dad took him down to Utah Valley (where his doctor is) and they admitted him.  He spent his time there until Wed. getting better.  So fun, but we're thankful for modern medicine.

Jason's family was so great to help out.  They took him to church and watched him Mon - Wed. while I was with Jason.  On Monday (Memorial Day) I did go over to Karen's, where the family was, to pick up Jacob. He was having a great time with the cousins.

This past week we went with playgroup to Wheeler farm, fed the ducks, saw some animals, played on the farm equipment and had lunch.

 We also planted our garden this month.  We  have tomatoes, peppers, corn, cantaloupe, carrots and cucumbers.
























 I took Jacob and his friend Ryan to Cowabunga Bay for 4 hours and they had a great time--it really wore them out!

This week we start swimming lessons (4 mornings), crafts and games in the park (2 afternoons), Tuesday morning movie, Tuesday night T-ball, and Thursday Gymcats.  In our spare time we'll play with friends here on our street.  Should be a busy summer--it already needs to slow down!!

Zion National Park with My Parents

At the beginning of the month we took off on Thursday afternoon to Zions National Park.  We picked up my parents and drove down to stay in Springdale, which is just outside of the park by the east entrance.

Friday morning we took the shuttle from Springdale to the entrance of the park, and then Zion's shuttle up to the lodge.  I love that area of the park.  There is a big huge tree in the middle of a large grass area...it is beautiful and so peaceful.

From Zions lodge there are a couple of hikes, one being The Emerald Pools.  We decided to hike to the Lower Emerald Pool, which is about 1 mile round trip.

Mom and Dad felt they could do it....and they did!  It took a while, but at my dad at 81 and my mom at 74...they were troopers.  We took rests, but it worked.

After the hike they needed a rest.  We went back to the lodge and sat outside for a while before catching the shuttle back to Springdale for lunch.

A little later in the afternoon we went back into the park and took the shuttle up to the Temple of Sinawava and walked along the river.

Jacob and Jason went across and managed to get up on the rock.  Good thing he has a dad or he would never get to to that!

The next day, Saturday, we drove through the canyon to the west entrance and saw the Checker Board Mesa.  We look like such tiny little specks out there!

Once on the west side of the park we decided to go and see the Coral Pink Sand Dunes.  The sand really is a coral pink...it is hard to tell in some of these pictures, but it was so pretty.

Then it was on to the drive home...we arrived on Saturday afternoon and Mom and Dad made it!  Fun little get away!
