November

The first Sunday in November was Hannah's blessing day.  Everyone was there and she looked darling!

Our Master bathroom toilet has had a small crack in it for a couple of years.  We decided to change it before it became a problem.  Jacob helped.

After the toilet was removed Jacob and Gabe got to smash it.  Lesson learned for Jason...a plastic drop cloth doesn't cut it with a bunch of broken ceramic pieces.  They cut right through the plastic as you are trying to lift the mess into the garbage. 

Funtopia again.  Jacob decided to jump and was glad he did!

 Chris and family came for Thanksgiving.  We had dinner with them and Mom.  Joy had her family over and Heidi had her family at her house.  We all then went to Heidi's for dessert.  We're getting so big it is difficult to fit in one place.









Thanksgiving night Garrett came and slept over with Jacob.  He loved it.  They did it about 5 years ago.

Jacob received his Arrow of Light award.  It was really cool.  I need to see if I can find more pictures from other people since I was up in front as he received the award.

 Jason went to career day at school and explained what he did at work.  Afterward Jacob graduated from D.A.R.E.

 Chris and family went home after Thanksgiving and Chris came back a week later for Malia's wedding.

David and Heidi had a beautiful dinner at their house the night before so everyone could get to know each other.

October

 October begin with General Conference.  Changes have been happening at Conference!  At this one President Nelson announced  that the church block on Sunday would change from 3 hours to 2 hours.
Sacrament meeting would be 1 hour, a 10 minute break to move to classes and then 50 minutes of: primary (5 min. opening, 20 min singing, switch and 20 minute lesson), or 1st and 3rd Sunday--Sunday School and 2nd and 4th Sundays, Relief Society, Priesthood, YM/YW.
I remember back in 1979 when we were building the new Redwood City building we moved to the 3 hour block and can remember people wondering how to keep kids attention for the 2 hour block!  :)
Previous to that we had gone to church all day.  Dad would go to Priesthood meeting, come home and we'd all go to Sunday School and Jr. Sunday School, come home, eat lunch and then go back in the evening for an hour and a half Sacrament meeting around 5:30.  My how things are changing.

 The change is to encourage a home centered, church supported Gospel study.












MarySue's mom has a huge apple tree in her backyard and lets us come pick apples every year .  This year we went over and got quite a few.  Norma (MarySue's mom) was there, but stayed inside as her health wasn't good.
It turned out that this year would be our last as Norma passed away in November.
She has always been in good health, but began to fall down towards the end of October.  MarySue brought her home and began to take care of her until she passed away.  She was a very nice lady!

 We continued our tradition of going to Gardner Village with Terri Hodgen and Debbie Kirby and kids.

 Jacob and his friend Carter were able to ride the back roads to get a treat at Pirate O's.
I remember years ago, before I moved to Draper....whenever I would drive down here and see Pirate O's I always thought it was a bar!  :)

 We had a change in October to go to Funtopia with Catheys and Browns.  Had fun there!!

I have been taking a quilt class with my friend Andrea.  I finally decided to put last years quilt squares together for a lap blanket.  Here is the result of the blocks sewn together.  I still need to put a boarder etc. on it. 

 We went to STEM Fest with Conner and Gabe.

On Wednesdays Jacob and his friends have film crew after school.  They are always wanting to play together so we decided to have a playgroup each week.  Here they are at our house using Play-Doh.

Halloween....had the class party and I helped again.  Here Jacob is at one of the stations.

 Jared and Stephanie invited us over to a cake decorating contest.  It was fun!

I've always thought it would be interesting to stand beside a stop light to show just how big it actually is!

















Instead of a Pinewood Derby, this year they did a rocket derby.  Jason was out of town, but helped Jacob build it. Then Randy came to help us make sure it flew!

September

 September has been busy.  Mostly, for me, with PTA.  Beginning of year always has a lot to do. 

I was Legislative VP last year and this year wasn't going to do anything on the board, but there was no President elect and the President asked if I would fill in.  I have to be a fill in because we won't be at Draper next year--Jacob will be in 6th grade--middle school!  So it was easy to say yes.  I can help, but don't have to be in charge next year.  YEA!!

September 2018

 Here we are making cookies.  Similar to 2009 when he was helping me.  He was a much bigger help this year at 10 than he was 9 years ago when he was 1.  He wanted cookies so I told OK as long as he helped.

 One of the bigger things for PTA in September is the Dragon Dash.  They hold it at Corner Canyon HS and each grade level runs a 400 yard dash...grouped by boys and girls.  Here Jacob is getting ready to run in his heat.

At the end they have a mile run that Jacob likes to participate in.  He does well and is able to run almost the whole thing. 

2013 (Kindergarten)

 We went to Jacob's old school, where he attended Kindergarten, Crescent Elementary for flu shots.  He wanted to climb on the K playground for old times sake.  We even ran into his old Kindergarten teacher, Mrs. Turpin.

We participated in the family skate nights at the skate park.  Jacob began to work on his space derby rocket for his last cub pack meeting and he began 11 year old scouts.

This little lady was born to Elizabeth and Nathan.  Hannah Mary.  She is so cuddly and cute.  Weird to think I'm the great aunt and not the aunt.

Kimberly Stewart flew in from California to visit.  She was in our Stake when we were teenagers and is actually Joy's age.  She had a baby last year.  So fun to see her and get together with other friends from that time

Cornbellys.  We've gone off and on since 2011 with Andersons, Catheys and Nefs.  This year we were with Nefs.  We rode the cow train, did the small Bee zip lines and Jacob and Jaxon did the big, long zip line--he loved it!

 
 They had a ball popper thing where you put balls in the tubes and they shot up in the air.  Here Ellie Sue put her face over it.  Such a funny picture.

Every year we spend time in the big tent FULL of corn and the kids love it.  It really is a cool sensation, but you get very dusty!

Ah....yard work.  With Dad gone non of us have had the time needed to dedicate to his yard like he used to do.  So on the last Saturday of September many of us (about 24) gathered at Mom's to work on the yard.  We cleared weeds, plants, put down weed barrier, took up the grow boxes etc. to get it to a possibly more manageable state. 






















Where the grow boxes were we determined that putting down sod would be much easier to manage. 
Next spring Shane said he would come an get the sprinklers working and then we'll lay the sod. 
We got a ton done in about 4 hours.

End of September we had parent teacher conferences.  Jacob is doing well.  At level in math and he was the highest reader out of both classes.  So doing well there too.  He struggles with Chinese, but if we can just get through this year then he will be done.
