Question About Ding Dongs

When I was growing up Ding Dongs were a treat. Saved for special occasions such as a field trip lunch dessert or when we went on vacation. They were so good and creamy.

So the other day I saw them by the check out and thought, "It has been years since I've had one of those. I think I'll buy a box."

My question: Have the Ding Dongs gotten smaller, drier, and less tasty or have my taste buds gotten old?

Can't say for sure, but I bet your taste buds have become "more refined". Simply said, you have since developed an appreciation for better tasting desserts.

I have not consumed Ding Dongs in many a year so I can't make an official comment. I was always partial to Funny Bones? Did they have them here or were they an east coast thing? They were similar to a Ding Dong but in a tube like a Twinkie and filled with peanut butter filling. Yum. Let me know if you ever see any.

In the movie Hook, the grown up Peter (Robin Williams)said to Capt. Hook (Dustin Hoffman)as they prepared to fight, "I remember you being much bigger." Hook responded, "To a 10 yr old, Im huge." Perhaps the same logic, or lack there of, applies to the Ding Dongs too....

I think it is our memories that are slipping. It is amazing that things never taste as good as the memory of the way they tasted.

I think we need to try Funny Bone, they sound great.
