Summer is Winding Down

I cannot believe it is the end of August. Even with a broken arm I feel we have squeezed all the swimming in possible. (I've spent more time in my swim suit this summer than in the past 20 years!)

A few weeks ago we went with Jason's work to Lagoon. If you remember last year Jacob looked like this on the boat ride (even though he said he wanted to ride it). This year he was much happier! We had lots of fun at Lagoon.

And of course Jacob's famous picture taking! Me, Grandpa and us as a lovely looking couple!

Finally He Has His Cast

Jacob broke his arm on July 20th. The following week, on Thursday the 28th, we went in to get his cast. They took x-rays again and found the bones were not straightening. We had 2 options. The Dr. could straighten the bones there in the office, but that would hurt, or we could come in the next morning, they would put him under conscious sedation, and straighten them. We opted for the second choice.

Friday morning we arrived at the hospital at 6:30 a.m.At 7:30 they took him into the operating room, and 20 minutes later the Dr. came back in and showed us the x-rays with the straightened bones. Jacob was back in the room at 8:30 a.m., had some juice, ate a Popsicle and we checked out at 9:00 a.m.

Since they had to set the bones he was in a splint again for another week. This last Tuesday (Aug. 9) we went in and they put the cast on. While we waited for the Dr. Jacob rode this around and wanted to climb on this(is he trying to break his other arm?) Here are the supplies for the cast. Here they are wrapping his arm in mesh.(His arm is a little dirty after being splinted for 3 weeks.) The Dr. holding his arm until the cast was set(he probably thought I was nuts trying to take pictures!)It is water proof! YEA!! We're headed to the splash park today!

Broken Arm

Last Wednesday Jacob was playing on his climbing/slide toy
in the backyard with his cousin. They were standing on the platform inside and he slipped and fell. It isn't a long fall, but he fell just right and broke both bones in his left arm.

I took him to Instacare because I didn't think his arm looked right. He was crying when we got there, they took us into a room and I laid him down. After an hour (that is about how long it took from check-in) we finally saw the Dr. But by the time he came in Jacob was no longer crying and, while he didn't use that arm, he could move is fingers and wrist...so I thought maybe it was sprained.

They took an x-ray and it was broken. They splinted it
and I took him home. We get a cast this Thursday.

He was a trooper!Amazing what a little ibuprofen can do!!

Buzz Cut Time

Sorry for so many posts done all together...I used to post when Jacob took a nap. Since he gave that up last fall I have found it increasingly difficult to find time (read energy at night) to do it. So here they are!

Jason has wanted to buzz Jacob's hair since the beginning of summer, but I wanted to keep it longer for our family picture at our family reunion (where Jacob was a little difficult to get to cooperate--so maybe it didn't matter if his hair was longer or not).

Anyway, the before and the after To keep Jacob entertained and sitting still for the hair cut we gave him the camera and he took pictures of mom making faces.
I know, I know..I should use these as head shots for my modeling career.

5th Water Hike

We went with Jason's brother's family and my cousin, Julianna, and her family down to Diamond Fork Canyon to 5th Water. It is a 4.5 mile trek round trip hike up to the falls where there are "hot pots." The day we went the warm water was very hot---we had to rearrange some rocks so it would mix with the colder water and cool off. It is beautiful up there!
Jason sticking his head out from behind the fallsBurrrrr!!
Jacob and his cousin Sarah
It was a perfect day for hiking up there and then getting in the water!

Jacob's First Funeral

Last Sunday the neighbor kids found an injured bird. They tried to nurse him/her back to health, but alas, he passed.

They held a funeral on Wednesday morning and invited Jacob. There was a posting of colors Some kind words were said and then they played games. One was called "Musical Bird"....(musical chairs) and then laid the bird to rest. He would have felt honored to know what type of homage was paid to him.

50 Years Together

On August 16th my parents will officially celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. That is a long time to be together...especially in today's world!

To celebrate all of my brothers and sisters, and their families, came to town for a week long family reunion. There were 41 of us! My parents knew we were getting together for the week, but they didn't know that we were doing a special dinner for them one night. My sister, Heidi, hosted it (along with most of the other meals for the week).
Each of the brothers and sisters each made a toast.
There was kissing and a wonderful dinner enjoyed by all!

We played games Hiked to Stewart Falls

Had a talent show Went to Seven Peaks and had a great time together. Everyone was very tired by the end of it!
It was worth it.
Just think, we're 5 1/2 years into marriageonly 44 1/2 left to go!
