We tried taking it away and that lasted about 2 days--he began to wake up at night and we didn't want to start that habit again. So we waited a few more weeks. The clincher was at church when we couldn't use it to help him be quiet. He looked at it and batted it away. We quit using it that day.
That was more than 2 weeks ago and he (we) have not looked back. I was actually dreading the day when we'd have to take it away, but for him it was easy. Thank you Jacob!

i didn't stop using a pacifier till i was about 4 and a half. my neighbor finally took it from me. i was so clinged to those!
I had two binky kids and it took one of the boys losing one down Niagara Falls (I kid you not) to get him to quit. LOL Good for Jacob!
It is kinda nice not to have to worry about keeping track of it and keeping it clean. Glad it wasn't so bad!
Good for Jacob. We still use ours at naptime and at night.
Good for Jacob. It is probably a good age to say bye-bye to the little thing...especially if he i chewing through it, then it becomes a choking hazard.
Good for Jacob. All my kids had pacifiers. Regardless of a few sleepless nights, it's much easier to get rid of a pacifier than it is a thumb:0)
